Does everything need to have a thought behind it?

It all begins with an idea.

After many years of letting my web page slide, and many years without a page, I finally decided to rip off the bandage and put myself out there. Any project I approach there generally always has to be a meaningful amount of thought for the design. Wether it is aesthetics, functionality, price, or some fluid evolution these factors during the process. This rabbit hole I go down every project both satisfies me with the results, and tortures me at the same time. Making a new web page was no different. While making the new page I was wanting to convey both subtile details, make a shout out to previous promotional material, and remember people who influenced me.

I have never really had a logo for the company and wanted to come up with something for this occasion. Over the years one my my most favourite project to make was items turned on the wood lathe. Thinking back in time my first lathe I got was a Sears Craftsmen for Christmas when I was 13 years old. It was a strech at the time so I had to loan some old turning chisels from a teacher.

My first ever experience on the lathe was back in woodworking class during 9th grade junior high. Here the workshop was equipt with what seemed to be a dream amount of Delta stationary machines. They had a set of 3 lathes that could be used.

The first item we got to make was turning an egg form. Later the teacher had a competition spinning the eggs like a top with compressed air. I think that is where my interest in this form came from and has never really left. Last easter I turned 5 large ash easter eggs that could open for goodies. I inlayed extra material in the joint so the grain from part to part would match as much as possible. These eggs ended up as my first photo on the home page.

After much deliberation, I decided the egg with a light bulb would be a natural choice for a logo! It symbolises my constant passion to create new and original woodworking products.

The question posed at the start of this story really has as many answers as there are people…but for me its YES with my woodworking projects!!! There are other things in life I don’t deliberate over…
